Where: Emu Point Foreshore (Marina) Who: This free event is open to all ages Why: The Oyster Harbour Catchment Group is commemorating 2026 with a day of activities, talks and entertainment on the shores of the Harbour. Visitors can join experts for lively discussions on the past, present and future of local landcare, with something for all ages to enjoy under a big marquee. Interactive displays will showcase our impact through programs and projects like breathing life back into Lake Matilda, a comprehensive plan and actions which won a National Landcare award in 2008. The Olympic Landcare program which saw over 300 local students take part in planting trees in the lead-up to the 2000 Sydney Olympics. A decade of targeted weed control around the Porongurup Ranges National Park, including the formation of the Ranges Link focus area. Plus efforts to conserve our local threatened species, the Western Ringtail possum and many more. A series of panel discussions will reflect on caring for Country with Menang Noongar representatives; the strength of community advocating for environment amid the challenges of agriculture, industry and urbanisation; and a vision for what the future can look like when we continue to care for nature. With entertainment from Southern Edge Arts and Mooditch Nop, kids’ activities and partner organisation stalls, this event will have something for everyone while highlighting the importance of the Great Southern’s unique natural environment. |
