School Holidays Western ringtail possum spotlight
This evening at the King River Hall will begin with an interactive presentation on the critically endangered Western ringtail possum. Followed by a light supper before we head off on a short walk (around 1km) to try and spot some possums ourselves. There will be some great free resources available for participants to take home.
Parents are required to remain/participate with their child/ren. All ages welcome! Please dress appropriately for walking and potential wet and/or cold weather (closed in shoes, warm clothing, rain jacket), bring a water bottle and a head torch if you have one, we will have some spares available to borrow if needed. Please reserve a ticket for each participant on eventbrite by clicking the button below. If for some reason you can no longer attend, please either cancel your ticket or email [email protected] |
Annual Ringtail Tally 2025
The Annual Ringtail Tally for 2025 has now finished, please submit your datasheets by the 20th June to go into the Prize Draw. Scan or photograph your datasheet and email to our ecologist Hannah Bannister at [email protected]
The Annual Ringtail Tally for 2025 ran from Sunday 6th April to Saturday 3rd May, the tally involved members of the public counting the number of western ringtail possums they saw on any given night in their local patch – this can be a backyard, or a small patch of bush nearby. The Tally helps researchers understand how the Critically Endangered species is tracking.
Hard copies of tally instructions and data sheets were available from the Oyster Harbour Catchment Group office (Albany Highway, Mount Barker) and South Coast NRM (88 Stead Road, Centennial Park). Alternatively, a downloadable version is available HERE. Once completed, the data sheet can be returned by email, mail or hand delivered (further details are provided on the data sheet).
The Annual Ringtail Tally as an initiative of Geocatch, in partnership with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. More information can be found here: https://geocatch.asn.au/living-with-possums/possum-tally/
This project received grant funding from the Australian Government’s Saving Native Species Program.
